Elevate

“Live less out of habit and more out of intent.”  -Unknown

Elevate, yes, that’s this week’s message. Why? It’s my word of the year. I imagine I am not the first to mention this to you. This concept has been around for a while. I have personally been doing it for almost 10 years, thanks to one of my mentors, Susan Ida Peterson.

What’s a word of the year? It’s a focus. It’s a word that you choose to represent your year. It will help you make decisions. It will help you decide your absolute yes’s. It will stretch you. In other words, I use it to replace any resolutions.

My word of the year came to me as a gift. After I walked through the exercises with myself and my groups.

My word, elevate, means that I will do things differently. Raising others up. Raising myself up. Elevating my personal and professional life.

I would love to know do you have a word for the year?

Put Pen to Paper

“Putting pen to paper lights more fire than matches ever will.”  -Malcolm Forbes

Put pen to paper, yes, that’s this week’s message. It goes along with last week’s message. I had shared with you that before I get out of bed I say to myself Today I AM and then I fill in the blank.

To get some true introspection, enhance my learning, and become more creative I actually write it down. Yes, I take a moment and I pause. I put pen to paper. Not only do I write Today I AM, I also write about things I’m grateful for and blessed about and how my day is going to happen. It’s all from who I’m BEING. That is called setting your intentions.

Today I AM

“You have to be before you can do, and do before you can have.” Zig Ziglar

Today I AM, yes that’s this week’s message. The reason is, that’s what you can decide to do every morning. Not just on New Years Day. Every morning before you get out of bed, decide Today I AM… and then fill in the blank.

The reason why it works is if you choose who you are going to be, then from that you do what you’re going to do, so you can be who you’re going to be and then you’ll have exactly what you want.

That is the model that I follow, BE, DO, HAVE. It all starts first thing in the morning when you say, Today I AM.

I would love to know your thoughts.

The Curve Ball

“When life throws you a curve ball, it’s the opportunity of a lifetime to knock it out of the park.” Unknown

When life throws you a curve ball, yes, that’s this week’s message. I bring it to you as my daughter is home for the holidays with her new puppy. I’m calling her our new little curve ball. (not in a bad way, in a change way)

When a curve ball comes how do you hit it? You’ve got to make a shift. You’ve got to make a change. If you don’t you’re going to miss the ball.

Doing your life the same way over and over again, while expecting different results, that’s insanity.

Right now, we have a little curve ball. That means there are going to have to be some shifts. And you know what? It’s all good.

Because YOU get to choose your absolute yes’s every day. You can say no to other things. Yes, that is your little reminder. No, is a complete sentence.

I would love to know your thoughts. Have you ever been thrown a curve ball? If yes, how did you handle it?

The Mission

“Outstanding people have one thing in common: an absolute sense of mission.” Zig Ziglar

The mission, yes that’s this week’s message. I bring it to you as I’ve been on a mission the past few days to take back my office.

I realized 5 years ago I had decided that we needed a guest room. We were having our nephew come to visit. The solution, put a bed in my office.

It’s been in my office ever since. Not to say that people haven’t used it, but my husband reminded me, if we have a guest come to visit, one of our daughters doesn’t even live here anymore.

That shift in thinking launched me on a mission to take back my office. Have you ever been on a mission and it seems to be getting worse before it gets better?

I don’t even know where half this stuff came from, but I am on a mission to either find it a home or let it go.

As I try not to get overwhelmed, my friend Nancy reminded me of all the treasures I am finding while on this mission.

One of the treasures, besides the cute pictures of my girls when they were younger, was a piece of paper with this statement on it:

“To love whole heartedly, to learn with an open mind, to teach with inspiration”

I’m not even sure when I wrote it. The cool part is, it still applies today.

I guess I’ve always had a mission. It may not be written right in front of me, but it IS what I’m doing.

If you want to know more about my current mission, I talked about it in our group, Leading A Life Of Harmony, you can join the rest of the conversation over there.

I would love to know your thoughts about being on a mission. How does it go for you? Does it get a little worse before it gets better?

The Pause

“Practice the pause. When in doubt, pause. When angry, pause. When tired, pause. When stressed, pause. And when you pause, pray.” Unknown

The pause, yes that’s this week’s message. I bring it to you as I purposely made time to pause.

To put a pause on my life. To just BE. Be in the moment. In quiet. In solitude with my thoughts.

I did this for an extended period. I realized there is such power in this practice.

Where is the rule book that says we must keep going, and going, and going until we have no more fuel?

MAKE the time to pause, to reflect. It will refresh your life. I really believe in pausing and putting pen to paper.

If you want to know more about the specifics and some techniques I use on a daily basis to harness the power of the pause, I talked about it in our group, Leading A Life Of Harmony, you can join the rest of the conversation over there.

I would love to know your thoughts on the pause.  Do you make time for it? Or are you forever going and going until you just can’t go anymore?

The Meltdown

“It’s okay to have a meltdown just don’t unpack and live there.” Unknown

The meltdown, yes that’s this week’s message. I bring it to you as I ponder on the meltdown. The meltdown that I had this past week. Thankfully I came out of it better and stronger. If I’m being completely transparent, it wasn’t fun.

Great news, I learned a few things.

First, you can’t keep everything inside. Eventually something will trigger you and you’re going to blow.

The next thing I learned, no news flash here, change is inevitable. Change is always happening, and we get to choose how we walk through that change.

Finally, I was faced with my very question that I like to ask you, What If It’s Better? I can tell you, I am pondering that question right now and I will let you know when I have the answer.

If you want to know more about the specifics of the meltdown, I talked about it in our group, Leading A Life Of Harmony, you can join the rest of the conversation over there.

I would love to know your thoughts on the meltdown.  Have you ever had one? How have you been able to walk through it and come out better?
