Better or Worse

Leave everyone better than you found them, that’s this week’s message.  It comes to you from one of my favorite books, Be Yourself by John Mason. This morning, as I normally do, I picked up a book and I randomly opened it up to a page, Leave Everyone Better Than You Found Them. Naturally this message happens to relate to something that happened this past weekend.

We were moving in my older daughter into her apartment. You pay for the entire month yet don’t get to move in for 3 weeks because they are supposed to clean the apartment from the last residents. I’m not going to get into the details. Needless to say it does not look like anyone cleaned it. The living conditions were less than ideal.

I walked into the office the moment it was opened. I could tell that the woman behind the desk was a little on edge. Maybe I am not the first person who came to her with this situation? At that moment, I choose to leave her better than I found her.

After you have interactions with people, do they feel bigger or smaller? Better or worse? Do they feel faith or fear?

Just Breathe

“Sometimes you just need to take a deep breath.” –Unknown

Just breathe, that’s this week’s message.  I bring it to you because, personally, I don’t know about you, I feel like I haven’t been able to REALLY take in those deep breaths.

My sister is working in Rio, my family and friends are out on the road traveling, and I am personally connected to someone who is going through the devastation of the floods in Louisiana.

Can you relate? Do you have situations that are causing you not to take in those deep breaths?

I wanted to send you this message because breath is a gift. In most cases we don’t have to think about breathing because our unconscious mind is taking care of that function. I feel like it’s the deep breaths that we really should take in whenever possible.

Be present. Just Breathe. It means we have another day to take another step forward, no matter how big or small.

10 Minutes

“The bad news is time flies. The good news is you’re the pilot.” –Michael Althsuler

10 Minutes, yes, that’s this week’s message.  When I say that, does it sound like a long amount of time or a short amount of time?

I bring this concept up to you because I was on my walk and I usually do a 30 minute walk. When I was done it was 6:20am. I felt like, I have 10 more minutes, 6:30am feels like a better time to finish walking. I walked 10 more minutes and what do you know, it was 1200 extra steps! (very important to a FitBit fanatic) I was so excited about this concept.

I have been taught that if you work for 50 minutes straight, without any interruptions you can get so much done. Then after 50 minutes you should take a 10 minute break.

What are you doing in those 10 minutes? Do you know how much you can get done? You could call a friend and say hello. You could color in a coloring book. You could walk and get 1200 steps. Imagine if 10 times a day you walk for 10 minutes, you would have over 10,000 steps!

Living a life of harmony, yes, that’s this week’s message.  The reason I bring it to you is I realize that’s what I’m working on. That’s what I’ve been searching for, a life of harmony.

I opened one of my books by John Mason, “You Can Be Your Best”  There was a quote by a gentleman named William Ward, “There are three enemies of personal peace: regret over yesterday’s mistakes, anxiety over tomorrow’s problems, and ingratitude for today’s blessings.”

I truly believe everyday there is something you can find to be grateful for. It’s been said, that if you aren’t grateful for what you have now, you certainly won’t be grateful for the things that you get.

Trust, yes, that’s this week’s message.  I bring it to you because this morning when I was deciding what I was going to talk about, I have to be honest I was not trusting the process.

I opened one of my books by John Mason, “Be Yourself.” The message was “It takes just as much effort and energy for a bad life as it does for a good life.” The title of this excerpt was “From this page you can go anywhere you want.” I get it, but I thought, what does that really mean? Maybe that’s not today’s message.

I decided to open up another one of John Mason’s books, “Believe You Can.” The random page I opened up to said, “I make the most of all that comes and the least of all that goes.” The title of that excerpt was “Are you trying to go somewhere in neutral?”

That got me thinking. Trust. One of my catch phrases is “Trust the process, let go of the outcome.” Like the process I go through to bring you these messages, I am suppose to trust that process.

The original message of putting our energy into what’s going wrong is so true. We cling onto what we don’t have, the bad. Why is that?

Ideas Worth Sharing

Are you aware that every week I post a video on my fan page- Leadership Liaison? After sharing this particular video this week I realized if I truly am passionate about sharing my ideas and encouraging others to do so, then I need to be connecting and communicating them as much as possible. Do you know where that slogan comes from? It comes from Ted Talks. I don’t know about you but I love a good Ted Talk. It is something I actually aspire to do one day, give a Ted Talk.

Last week I was challenged with someone asking, what’s your idea worth sharing? I started to wonder if I had one, an idea worth sharing. When I truly paused, and listened, it came to me. I figured out what I am really grateful for and what I’m committed to. Yes, I do have an idea worth sharing.

Part of my idea comes from my gratefulness of different perspectives. There are many different perspectives in life. Are you committed to learning about them? Do you listen to other people? I have a wide variety of people in my life, living in my house, my family, and my friends. It is one of the things I love and am grateful for, different perspectives.

Listen

This is how it goes.  I wake up in the morning and I think what is it that I am going to talk about for my videos and blog posts? I pause, I look at different books, and I say “What is the message I am to share?”

Today, it came from this little book “Listen.Learn.Love.Lead” by Nina Obier (hey, that’s me) It’s a little book that I “spoke” a couple of years ago.

I opened the book to a random page; it was a lesson on Listen. Of course it was, because to me that is the cornerstone of everything. In the book I was talking about being at a party. Everyone is there, but are they really “there?” Are they in a conversation but looking over someone’s shoulder? Do they think there is something better over there? Are they distracted with their own agenda? Or do they just want to go on their phone?

What is it about being in a present moment, having a person in front of you, but not even listening? I feel that is something we ALL could work on.

It’s been said that really the key to HAPPINESS is having DEEPER connections.

While doing some research on this very subject, I found this article “7 Things Great Listeners Do Differently” Focus, put away your phone, ask good questions, practice reflective listening, use positive body language, don’t pass judgment, and keep your mouth shut.
