Leadership is a Lifestyle, Not a Life Title

I believe “Leadership is a lifestyle, not a life title” Even though, the way to your success will be different than mine, I have 7 steps I use to get there.

Step One and Two- Set a Focus and Unite with your values- Your vision statement is your light. It illuminates your way. It is the 1st step in focusing your life. -Your VISION statement guides your life and provides the direction necessary to chart the course of your days and the choices you make about your career. Make time and put pen to paper. The vision statement in your mind is just a dream.

Step Three- Create a Cheerful  attitude- “You cannot hang out with negative people and expect to live a positive life.” –Anonymous. Here are 5 Steps to Happiness I came across on Facebook.

  1. Smile More,
  2. Worry Less,
  3. Be Present,
  4. Give More,
  5. Expect Less.

Step Four- Communicate with Certainty- Wise men talk because they have something to say; fools, because they have to say something. –Plato. This is where I get so excited. This is my destiny to bring back Human Communication. I truly believe it is a lost art. 85% of your success is based on how well you can effectively communicate. The great news is, it is a skill that can be learned! For me it all begins with listening, my motto is proof, Listen.Learn.Love.Lead. I believe when you shift your focus to listening, truly listening, your life will change.

Step Five- Efficiency in Personal Productivity- Are you interested in leading your life? Then you need to become efficient. I have come to find out that many people share one of their obstacles is procrastination. Here are 9 ways to overcome procrastination:

  1. Delegate (the task)
  2. Do it (just do it)
  3. Ask for advice (you might be procrastinating because you do not know how to accomplish the task)
  4. Chop it up (into bite size pieces)
  5. 15 minute rule (along with just do it, set a timer and work on it for 15 minutes only, before you know it, it’s done)
  6. Set a clear deadline
  7. Reward (YES, give yourself a reward when you have completed the task)
  8. Remove distractions!

Step Six- Share Responsibilities- “The best executive is the one who has sense enough to pick good men to do what he wants done, and self-restraint enough to keep from meddling with them while they do it.” Theodore Roosevelt Have you heard of the Parteo Principle? Or the 80/20 rule? There are several ways to interpret this principle. In this context, the principle states that 20 percent of your efforts yield 80 percent of the results you achieve. What does this have to do with delegation? You need to identify what this 20 percent of your work is and do more of it and delegate the 80 percent.

Step Seven- Once you have put all steps together;

S- Set a focus

U- Unite with your core values/priorities

C- Create a cheerful attitude

C- Communicate with certainty

E- Efficiency in personal productivity

S- Share the Responsibilities
